Dear Friends,
First of all thank you so much for all your donations, support and interest in the! Gubi Family project.
We are very pleased to tell you that the family has moved to Awie’s land and they are all very happy and well. They have started to learn the skills of farming under Awie’s supervision whilst being free to hunt and practice their Bushmen traditions. Awie has created job opportunities for them involving the building of their own village and employing them to help in the construction of a visitors camp to be called My Place Camp, as well as outside the farm. They also have the opportunity to learn financial management from Sonia, Awie’s wife who is a trained accountant.
All this is obviously new to them, but they are very happy knowing that this is a way to go forward.
Recently we were able to register all the children in a very good school nearby. The head mistress has written a most welcoming and understanding letter, which reassured us that the school is aware of any specific needs that these children might have.
My Place Camp is under construction and should be ready for approval by the Namibian Tourist Board in few months. This will allows us to open the camp for an educational exchange among schools and families. We are planning to visit the family in February and will rapport of course with photographs on the achievements to date.
We are working at the moment on all marketing materials including a website. We will inform you once the My Place Camp is open to visitors and hope that you will take this wonderful opportunity to get to know the! Gubi Family in person.
Other great news is that we have received an exceptional and very generous offer from Veronique and Jean-Francois Julien the winemakers from a world-renowned wine called La Fleur Morange. They are offering us 600 numbered bottles of Cuvee Special Bushmen 2010, which seems to be an exceptional year. 400 bottles have already been sold and we wouldn’t want you to miss out on this! Please see attached details on how to purchase this excellent wine.
Once phase 2 of the project is finished, we wish to complete the project by creating the Kalahari Bushmen Research Centre, to preserve the Bushmen knowledge and traditions. We believe that it is crucial that the !Gubi family will take an active part in this creation.
Thank you once again for your support.
We would not have been able to achieve all this without you.
